I’ve always enjoyed being active, but I decided to look for a running coach after taking up running more seriously during lockdown in early 2020. With the whole family at home for months especially with homeschooling two kids, it became so important to me to get outside, especially off road and into nature for both my physical and mental health. I took the plunge and typically of me, entered into an Ultra Marathon race for 2021. 5k to 30 miles in a year is what I was heading for. I was all -let’s do this- zero to hero!!! Then I realised I had no idea how to achieve my goal safely, let alone at all!

When I first met Jemma, we talked about my previous runs and spent time understanding my goals and motives. We laughed, I even cried… running was about more than putting one foot in front of the other. Jemma totally understood where I was coming from. She designed a program for me that was focussed and completely compatible with my family life. I’ve learnt not to give up when things get uncomfortable (speed sessions) and that there will always be someone (Jemma!) encouraging me to keep moving up that hill! It’s been so exciting to discover that I CAN run faster, further… The feedback she gives is so encouraging and it’s always good to know when you’re on track and more importantly when you’re not!

Having previously been a fair-weather runner of flat concrete, now I love the hills, the rocky terrain and rain is just a way of keeping fresh! I’ve got a long way to go (quite literally) but I already realise that the race next year is almost irrelevant. My journey with Jemma has already impacted on my life and I know I can achieve much more with her unwavering support and knowledge.
